Credit scores say a lot about us as people we basically do everything with it (not everything) but we sure buy a lot with it. Without a good credit score it’s impossible to get good interest rates when applying for loans. Landlords check your credit as well (some people don’t realize this) the last thing a landlord wants to do is put a tenant in their home that isn’t going to pay rent.

If you don’t know what your credit score is you can find out easy (in most cases for free).

There are 3 major credit bureaus -

  • Equifax
  • Experian
  • TransUnion

They calculate your credit scores. They all use the same formula and criteria when calculating your score but for some reason they are not always going to come up with the same number why I have no idea Chances are a creditor may have given one company someone information to an agency that they neglected or forgot to give to the other

Credit scores range from 200 – 850. This is how the ratings breakdown

680 and up is considered Very good credit!
621-679 is said to be Good credit

Credit scores that are below 600 isn’t a good thing It tells the world that you are very Irresponsible!! Get this fixed as soon as you can like YESTERDAY

Here are the things that affect ones credit score:

  • Make sure you are paying bills off on time (not just your credit card).
  • Credit history is big factor here the longer you have had good credit the better. Length and amount of revolving credit
  • Never close old or paid off accounts. Remember length of credit helps your credit score so closing accounts will only hurt your score.
  • Pay off your credit debt (that’s an obvious one.
  • Make payments on time.

Taking care of your credit really helps you in the long run now a days you cant even get a room (hotel) if you don’t a credit card regardless of how much cash you have on you. It’s always good to have a line a credit open just in case of an emergency
