So the best thing to do is continue to contact your prospects until verbal contact is made. It’s crucial because direct mail is like spam, most looks the same and most of it will hit the trash can. You have to keep in mind that the lead has no idea who you are. Most of them found a website typed in their information and… well that’s about it. So its a good idea to get in contact with your leads VERBALLY!. Most people trust a good ol voice over direct mail any day.
The other reason why its important to get in contact with your lead is because you have no idea how many other lead seekers have your leads in their list. There is no guarantee that the company that you purchased the leads from have sold them to you exclusively. So for that reason you want to make sure you get the prospect on the phone and make a good impression and good rapport before someone else does. I’m not saying that every company that sales leads will do this but its better to be safe than sorry. What I also do is ask the company to send me over a sample campaign. This way I can get a feel for how they do things and what the leads consist of. I also ask if they recycle leads or if the leads are exclusive.
